Spinal Balance & Correct Posture

Spinal balance and correct posture are two very important elements to abundant energy. Good posture should be a relaxed, comfortable and balanced state providing you with stability, poise, and energy.Good posture is when your head is balanced over your hips, your chin is parallel to the floor, and your pelvis is level. You walk with vigor and your step feels light. Good posture is a very important part of good mental and physical health. If your parents ever harped on your posture when you were younger, they were doing so with the best of intentions. Posture isn’t just a “sit up straight at the supper table” thing. Good posture aligns the spine and neck as well as the muscles and nerves throughout our body. Achieving and maintaining good posture is a process. We’re happy to help you along the path to good posture.

We offer a whole series on posture, flexibility and strength training, as part of our wellness and fitness programs here at LiveWell Family Health Centres in Ottawa. Contact us today to find out more and to get started on the path to better movement and flexibility.

How Chiropractic Care Helps With Posture

Good posture can help relieve you of back pain or avoid injuries. Posture also has an effect on your health, mood, self-confidence, and more. If you’re looking for ways to help improve your posture, a chiropractor in Ottawa can help! During your initial consultation, our chiropractors will examine your back and ask you questions to assess your posture and lifestyle. This assessment allows us to determine whether you have poor posture, what effect it may be having on your life and how we can help you correct your posture. To help you improve your posture, our chiropractors can use techniques such as forward head translation, spine realignment and more to ensure that your body is functioning optimally.

If you’re suffering from back pain and think it might be connected to your posture, book a consultation with one of our chiropractors at LiveWell Health in Ottawa. We’ll be able to provide you with a holistic approach to pain relief in Ottawa.

There are four main types of posture problems:

  1. Forward Head: Also known as “tech neck”, forward head is when your head is positioned with your ears in front of the vertical midline of your body.
  2. Kyphosis: also referred to as “hunchback”, Kyphosis refers to the exaggerated curvature of one’s upper back.
  3. Swayback: Also known as “lordosis” or “hyperlordosis”, swayback refers to when one’s hips and pelvis tilt forward in front of the body’s midline.
  4. Flatback: Flatback is a condition where the normal curve of your spine loses some of its curvatures. Your lower back will look completely straight, and you will stoop forward a bit.

If you suspect you or a loved one suffers from one of these conditions, contact us today and we will be happy to set up an appointment.

One of the most important things you can do to help your posture is to make a point of being aware of your current posture, and ensure you are always ready to correct it. It doesn’t matter if you are standing, sitting, or lying down. Another major thing that will help you is to use posture-friendly props to help you improve your posture. For example, using a backpack meant to help correct your posture is a great prop to wear to help keep your spine perfectly aligned with your body.

Contact Live Well today and we will be happy to provide you with the tools to help you achieve a perfectly healthy and happy back.

Posture braces are extremely helpful for certain people. People with Kyphosis (exaggerated curvature) benefit the most from posture braces, seeing that most posture braces pull your shoulders back and help you straighten out. Although posture braces are helpful, we always recommend pairing it with regular visits to a trained chiropractor for best results.
